Investing in loss
Leaves-letting-goOur modern society encourages us to desire and want things, this seem to be a current measure of success, the bigger the car, bank balance, house, lifestyle the more successful we should be. However this may not be the case, our media is full of wealthy people who apparently have everything that openly admit they are dissatisfied with their lot.

We tend to live our lives in a familiar ways, our lives are made up of safe recognisable patterns, patterns we only risk breaking on rare occasions. Our lives are a culmination of everything we have ever wanted whether we got the things we desired or not. It is an ongoing cycle of want something, get something, hang on to something, and sometimes loose that thing.

The alternative aim to live is life without wanting, without desiring, without clinging to things, for example if I pick up a glass, I see its a glass and I put it down again, I pay it no further attention until I need a drink, it is just a glass.

We should train our minds to react to our thoughts and desires in the same way, a thought enters the mind, it is observed and then put down and let go. Often how we think or feel gets in the way, will I enjoy it, will I like it, will it be fun, I don't want to do it, are all ways of delaying things, avoiding doing things. They prevent us living life to its fullest.

It is our attachment to things, events, people etc that causes us to become fixed unable to cope, locked into a life that is inflexible and rigid. Our fear of the unexpected, the spontaneous, and our insecurities are the very spice of life, they are the creative drives within us all that make our lives worth living.

When we embrace our insecurities, our fears, our apprehensions about things working out, we can let them go and feel more secure about what we are doing.

We can relax into investing in loss and the energy this will release within us, we can use this energy to help us move towards our goals and live fuller and more spontaneous lives.
